WHATEVER HAPPENS IS ALWAYS FOR THE ULTIMATE GOOD

I always used to preach that whatever God does to us or happens with us happens ultimately for the good or better only. And I have been severely criticised for feeling so from absolutely all quarters, but this one belief stays and has been instrumental in carrying me through my life successfully and that is why I see something good happening to this world even in the backdrop of the tragic Tsunami.

Please do not mistake me, I am not stating that Tsunami was not a tragic or unfortunate event, it is undoubtedly the worst tragedy to have happened in a long time. But at the same time, it has brought about the people's force and unity in the forefront in a magnitude it has never happened before. There were some comments in other blogs about ineffectiveness in the Government's effort in relief operations, but the fact remains that the relief and rehabilitation operations are going on in full swing by the force of the people who have suddenly learnt to work as a unit independent of the Government's support.

This peoples’ force and unity is the good thing that has happened amidst this great tragedy. A thousand salutations to the force. Let this be a realisation to all of us that we, the people, are a much stronger force than any Government and our strength lies in our ability to serve and help. I was given to understand that a woman named “Roshni” has individually campaigned and collected more than Rs. 20 lakhs for the relief fund. Let us all strive and become “Roshni – The One woman army” then I am sure no tragedy would be strong enough to overwhelm us.

On a deeper thought I have always realised that a tragedy, whether personal or National, in itself does not inflict so much of a misery and problems as done by the aftermath of the tragedy. And this effect of the aftermath can definitely be controlled by the peoples’ force with an attitude of rendering selfless service. We have to realise that we can be happy and peaceful only if our fellow human being are also happy which was evident to a great extent when we saw the cancellation of New Year Eve celebrations in most part of India.

Let this fire of Peoples’ force rendering selfless service ignited by this huge tragedy be burning forever so that history remembers this event more for the awakening it created among people than for the tragedy itself.

  • Well its always so - The trying circumstances ought to bring out either the worst or the best in people. Gold is put through fire to bring out the best in it.

I was happy when I saw the international community speak with respect about India and the way India is facing this disaster with dignity. I was happy when I heard that people are looking after their own and their neighbors. Children who are orphaned are taken up by parents who have lost their children. Brought tears to my eyes when I heard of that.

I suppose this tragedy has brought to light the fact that patriotic feelings rule over petty community, caste, creed and all other differences. This is the same unity which got us our Independance - Its nice to see it in the face of disaster. I know we'll get over it and survive. Not just survive - but LIVE.

  • Hi Trouvaille,

But it is sad that it takes an event of such deadly magnitude to kindle the patriotism and humanitarian nerves inside us. I think our skin needs to much, much more sensitive because the earth cannot withstand many more of such quakes.

  • Hari,

A positive way of approaching this tragedy. I am equally proud of the fact that NZ, as a tiny country, is contributing $10m (which is twice that of Aus, which is much much bigger). The size doesn't matter, only the feelings do.
I am much too affected by the tragedy to be of any use blogging for some time now. Being so far away is hell of a different sort.

  • Hi Laksh,

A very happy new year to you. Distance is no barrier when it comes to service as service has no specific form, no language and does not know distance. Even a mere expression of intention from your side may well act as a great source of inspiration to people who read your blog to serve and you may find that you have done your part to this cause.

    Good post Hari.

  • Hi , As usual a brilliant post!

Three comments for this; and all three have been picked up from various blogs:

    a) There have been instances even now that some 'rogues' have stepped in to take 'advantage' of the situation and loot whatever valuables they could find from the devastated places!

    b) Thankfully, the group of people such as described above are few! The overwhelming response in relief operations is unprecedented and immd. heartwarming. Incidentally, I hv read on Gaurav's blog that even the beggars of Kanpur hv collected money for the tsunami victims. I salute these men who despite having no proper means for themselves hv done a great job!

    c) Lastly, as I read on Lee's blog:

Wish 2005 will be a year when nature doesn’t have to turn so militant in order to bring us humans together

  • Hi Jagan,

it has been a revolution in human behavior in the past few days. And let us hope that the brought by this revolution remains permanant.

By Blogger hari, at 8:14 PM

  • Hi Deepak,
    Very valid comments buddy.

Regarding the first coment, it is because of these rogues only that God has to make his presence felt every now and then to discipline us, otherwise we would have been God ourselves with all the self-discipline that is required to make this world.

The beggars collecting aid for Tsunami victims only reiterates that to participate in the relief operation the only requirement is a big heart and intention to serve. We all have to take big lessons from those beggars who are doing something much beyond their means as they themselves require such relief everyday for their sustenance. A thousand salutations to them. They should no longer be categorised as beggars In fact we should be putting those rogues in that category.

Regarding Lee’s statement, let us hope for the best and let the change in human attitude be a permanent one.

  • Interesting post. I had a similar conversation with a relegious collegue a while back who said "Its all Gods design and there is an inherent good in everything". I agree partially since the Tsunami has indeed brought a lot of people from different nations together as never before. Good for the world in general.
But unfortunately, it makes it easy for us spectators to remark philosophically on such things as unity and generosity and what not.
There are tales of 11 out of 12 family members lost and most of villages and towns completely destroyed in the Indian Ocean countries. Imagine the plight of one X who has lost every single family member and also his friends not to exclude his livelihood and all that he called as his life until a few hours back. I am not sure how he will be able to see the inherent good in things and believe there exists a God. I cant imagine how he or she can ever come to terms with the truth.
In my opinion, every life is worth something. And that value goes up to everyone connected to him or her with his or her death. No amount of philosophising is going to help in even remotely reducing the magnitude of it. I am sure all of us here would have done whatever they can to help the survivors. To me, thats all that is left to do or talk in this matter. Everything else is just cold hard truths that is going to take time to get used to.

  • hey hari,
itz so nice to c people uniting to contribute for the cause. People have come up with realy good gestures like cancelling new year parites. and well people power is always predominant compared to any ruling body. but the only problem is to unite them and inspire them to do it... which i guess was a bit difficult task which can be attained by a dedicateed effort...

Sorry for not coming up with a post. I wanted to come out with something light hearted rather than burning issues.

I may soon succeed. Wish me good luck.

  • Hi Hari..
Chanced upon your blog n felt like commenting.Well..I do believe that things happen for our own good but not to this extent..does it necessarily take lives of thousands of ppl in order to realize the strength of unity? For "ppl's force" to come into execution, should it take hundreds of children to be orphaned n thousands to be rendered homeless?
    Not quite.

By Blogger Niyathi, at 10:13 AM

  • Hi Niyati,
Thanks for your comments in my blog. I may have sounded a bit crude and a hypocrite when I made this statement and you are definitely right when you felt this is too high a price to realize the strength of Unity. But unfortunately this is the harsh but true fact that only with such a high price the sensitivity in us awakens. In our country with such a huge population, you see small man made calamities almost everyday, but you do not see anyone even raising a voice against such avoidable calamities, let alone trying to prevent that or helping the affected people. On the other hand people try to make the best of the adverse situation to make themselves wealthy, which unfortunately is happening even with this tragedy.

We are living with near total insensitivity towards what is happening around us that to really awaken the human in every Indian God alone knows how many Tsunamis are required. Keep visiting and it is youngsters like you who should keep this fire of Unity among diversity burning forever.
