SLEEP YOUR WAY TO A HEALTHY LIFE
I had just read in a magazine about the importance of adequate sleep at night for a healthy living. It has been said that lack of adequate sleep can cause serious health disorders and diseases. Researchers have found that during the sleep our brain produces a hormone called Melatonin which is responsible for a natural reduction of heart rate and Blood Pressure at night during sleep. The production and release of this hormone is stimulated in the brain only during sleep and in the absence of light and that is why the importance of an adequate sleep at night.
The Melatonin along with cortisol and oestrogen prevent our body from contracting a lot of diseases including certain types of cancers.
So friends, whatever may be your busy work schedules and social commitments, please make sure you get a good night’s sleep as this would not only keep you physically and mentally refreshed, but also would protect you from serious diseases.

Hey,
I'm already aware that sleep is good, but my question remains tihs one; just how many hours of sleep per day are you supposed to have? I have people saying 8, but then there's other articles claiming that 6 is enough, and more healthy. Sleeping an uneven number of time is said to be unhealthy, because in your sleep you go through cycles that can be broken if you wake up on an uneven time (Such as REM and all that jazz)
Can anyone enlighten me? :-/

Hi Ramya,
That is true for most of us, but the question is are we really able to translate this want into actual sleep. You pics were fabulous, I have left my comment too.

Hi Shyam,
You are very lucky Shyam. Look into what Kaush has commented, the more the melatonin you produce, the more healthy you are. So maintain it. There is one more way of looking at it, the more you sleep, the less you would eat due to paucity of time for cooking as well as eating. That way also you would be healthy as you would end up just eating to live.

Good one indeed Hari... Few yrs back, I used to sleep only for 5 hrs or so... even then, if theres a phone ring or SMS beep, I wd wake up and never sleep for the rest of the nite.
Now things hav changed. In terms of duration, I am sleeping for abt 6 hrs.. but I never wake up to the alarm at all.. patterns hav changed. My wife says that I snore a lot too.. perhaps, thats what one calls "sound sleep".
btw Hari.. I am working in a different machine at work and hence not doing my blog reads properly.. will return back to my gud old machine soon and be a regular here... thanks for the comment u left in mine..

From a wayfarer,
I have experienced that anything between 6-8 hours is good sleep based on how you pattern your life. If you are doing strenuous stuff (read "lot of coding" or "tons of reading small print"), you need 8 hours to give your eyes and brain the requisite break. IF you are a light worker with access to more sunlight and fresh air during the day, 6 hours will do just fine. This of course is personal experience and some nuggets from collegues with whom I have discussed about it.
And as Jagan pointed out, eating and sleeping is the absolute worst you can do to your health and your looks (its the shortest path to the biggest tummy in town). A few years back I switched to eating just fruits at night and I havent felt better all my life.
And Saranyan, dude, be glad you dont get sleep in the afternoon. By sleeping in the afternoon, you can alter your metabolic patterns in a way that can have bad effects on your body.

Hi The Last Blogger,
Thanks for visiting my site. You have an interesting blog name. Initially when I posted this topic on melatonin,it was out of an intention to spread some good health tips. But now I find that the comments coming through are in fact more informative than the post itself. Thanks for you input and keep visiting.

Hi hari, I was just blog surfing and found you! Wow, I really like this one.
It’s such a pleasure to read your post …. Interesting! I was over at another site
looking at beds
and they didn't go into as much detail as you, but nonetheless interesting.
