BIKINI HAS ATTAINED RETIRMENT AGE – WHAT NEXT?
The most celebrated swimwear world over , “Bikini” is attaining 60 years of age in July this year, the big question that comes to my mind is what is next. I read in the Hindu-Business Line today that Bikini as a swimwear was invented in Paris in 1946 and the city is gearing up in a big way to celebrate the occasion. Contrary to humans who put weight as they grow old, Bikini has infact shred a lot of its weight and size over its 60 years of life. This has literally made bikini next to nothing, in the widest range of definitions.
So this celebration throws the challenge of the millennium for the fashion gurus to design a dress more popular and for a longer period than bikini. Any takers out there.

What goes around, comes around... no new fashion is really new, if you ask me - just a re-hash of previous ones.

An interesting theme to celebrate!

Hi Syam,
Welcome to my blog. You have given a pretty good example. But then, do we give the kind of attention to the wheel that we give to the bikini?
Believe me if we had given there would definitely have been invented more innovative and attractive models of wheels.

I guess it might be interesting to compare the original bikini and the present one - perhaps it might seem like a completely new design.
I wonder what ripples it created when it was first worn in the 40s huh?

Hari:
Bikinis are minimalist classics: fortunes have been built on them. After all, where would Brooke Shields and Ursula Andress be today, were it not for their bikinis?
Superannuation for the bikini? No way, sirrah...all I say is: be patient until someone hits upon something else that is even more almost-there, but still not there. When in doubt, wait.
