INDIA – REDEFINING DEMOCRACY

Democratic Government has for long been defined as a Government of the people, for the people and by the people. But Indian Democracy has indeed come of age and has got redifined into a Government of the Politicians, for the Politicians and by the Politicians.

The members of Indian Parliament and the State Assemblies are above the Constitution. They do seem within the constitutional ambit because whenever they blatantly cross the Constitutional limits, an ordinance is passed in the Parliament to amend the Constitution to bring the unconstitutional acts of the Members of Parliament within the Constitution.

These super human beings are also above law. I do not remember a single politician in Independent India convicted for any Civil, Criminal or Economic Offence case booked against him or her. This must not be construed to make the Indian Politician as the unquestionable example of a Statesman. This is only an example of how much above law they are. (Sri. Shibu Soren case being an aberration)

Accountability and Governance is something not available in the Dictionary of the Indian Government and its representatives. I really do not understand how we helpless people are still tolerating a system of Democracy where there are Laws and Rules for accountability and Governance of every citizen of India, every form of Association in India and every form of system operating in India, except for the Members of Parliament, State Assemblies and Politicians in general.

The latest salvo from the Autocratic Democracy of Indian Government is the Law for Accountability of Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court and the High Court Judges. Its definitely a good move in itself but when it comes from the bow of the Autocratically Democratic legislature of the country, it has the ability to shake the foundation of Judiciary, as an independent system.

Today they talk about the performance of Indian Cricket Team in the Parliament and use their unholy power to influence the Selection of the Team too. What more evidence is required than that Mr. Saurav Ganguly resigning from the captaincy of West Bengal Team even before he was selected to tour South Africa.

Beware Indian Citizens (other than politicians), a day would come when the members of the legislative assemblies or the Parliament, will decide whom you will marry, how many children you can have and may be even more.

WAKE UP INDIA, WAKE UP. BRING ABOUT LAW STIPULATING GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. MAKE JUDICIARY AND LAW ENFORCING AGENCIES TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF LEGISLATURE.

  • Hari, after reading your post I feel so helpless. I often wonder what can we do to change such a system and government. Maybe soon we will be able to do something with the help of internet. It is a great uniting force if we make it to be.
